Leo The Lovable Tibetan Mastiff At Popcorn Park Zoo Is Very Ill

The big dog was recently diagnosed with inoperable cancer.

For more than a year, the dedicated staff at Popcorn Park Zoo has been trying to find Leo, a Tibetan mastiff, a loving, forever home.

Leo was imported from China as a small puppy. He was removed from a terribly neglectful home when he as only 10 months, when his "owner" kept the big dog in a small pen in the backyard, with little to no human interaction.

First, they had to take care of his "cherry eyes" and take care of a number of medical issues with tests, surgeries and treatments to get Leo healthy, according to the zoo's Facebook page.

"We knew immediately that there was something very special about him the moment we met him," the post states. "Even in the terrible state that he was in, Leo rose above it and showed how strong and resilient he was, and wanted nothing more than to be loved and be with people that were kind and compassionate to him."

Sadly, after all this, the zoo staff discovered a mass on Leo's paw. The mass was removed, but it turned out to be hemangiosarcoma - an inoperable cancer.

"Leo's cancer is inoperable, and his time with us may not be long," the post states.

Leo is no longer up for adoption. He will stay with his Popcorn Park family for the rest of his life. He still romps around with his chew toys and friends at the zoo.

"He has a great life with us and will continue to enjoy life with us until the end," the post states. "We are no longer looking for a home for Leo, since he is at home with us. We will do everything we possibly can to ensure he enjoys life for whatever time is left. We will not let him suffer though. But as of right now, suffering is the furthest thing from Leo's mind."

The zoo staff is asking for prayers for the big dog, donations to the park's Res-Q-Fund which pays for the medical care Leo receives, blankets and dog toys.

"We want to thank you all again for helping us with your support of Leo," the post states." You all helped us give him such a wonderful life, a life he would not had had otherwise. He is happy, content and at home. He couldn't ask for more than that."
