NRC To Hold April Meeting On Oyster Creek's 2017 Performance

The event will be held from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on April 10 at the Holiday Inn in Manahawkin

MANAHAWKIN, NJ - The federal Nuclear Regulatory Commission will hold an open house on April 10 here to discuss the safety performance of the Oyster Creek Nuclear Generating Station for the year 2017.

NRC officials will be at the open house to describe the plant's evaluation and answer questions from the public.

The plant's resident inspectors will also attend.

The NRC’s annual assessment letter regarding Oyster Creek’s performance during 2017 can be found at the NRC’s website http://www.nrc.gov/reading

Signs, banners, posters and displays affixed to any sticks, poles or other similar devices
will not be permitted in the meeting room, according to the NRC.

The NRC and Lacey officials were taken by surprise when Exelon, the plant's owner, said the plant would close in October 2018, more than a year ahead of schedule.The plant was slated to cease operations by December 2019, as part of an agreement with the state.

Oyster Creek is the oldest nuclear plant in the United States. It went online in December of 1969.
