Smoking to be Prohibited on Municipal Grounds
The ordinance includes all municipal property except parks and beaches

Smoking on municipal property will soon be prohibited once the township passed an ordinance.
The township has crafted an ordinance and passed a first reading at Thursday’s Committee meeting.
Smoking is prohibited on school property and the township should follow suit, Deputy Mayor Gary Quinn previously said.

“What we really see a lot of, is on the days we have court, we really have a problem with people throwing cigarettes in front of the building,” he said.
The ordinance is new to Lacey Township and would cover municipal grounds, including the Municipal Building, Police Department, Public Works, Recreation Office, Community Hall, the Worden House, the Lacey Municipal Utilities Authority, the School House Museum and the Lacey Food Bank.

The parks and beaches are not included in the ordinance.
“It’s a very healthy move for all employees and all visitors,” Committeewoman Helen DelaCruz previously said at a Committee meeting in February.
Signs marked “no smoking” will be posted on all necessary municipal grounds.
A second reading will be done before the ordinance goes effect.
