Wind Farm Substation Work Begins In Lacey: What To Expect
A recent virtual meeting with Ocean Wind 1 outlined construction plans for the offshore wind farm's cables at Oyster Creek.
LACEY, NJ — As of Oct. 2, work for the onshore portion of the Ocean Wind 1 offshore wind farm has begun in Lacey Township.
The work is for what is called the Lanoka substation, which is located at the former Oyster Creek power plant and will be used to connect the energy generated by the wind turbines to the power grid on land.
A virtual hearing was held Sept. 30 to explain the construction and what residents can expect.

The route for the cable will run from the substation along Discharge Drive, then under Oyster Creek and Route 9 onto private land, according to the project's developer Orsted. It will then continue along private land to the Barnegat Bay, then run across Island Beach State Park via an underground duct bank.
Construction will be completed using horizontal directional drilling, or HDD, which is a method that allows construction to proceed with no planned disruption to traffic flow. Residents will not have to worry about any traffic impacts to Route 9, Orsted workers said.
