20 March | DSNDP Tree Plantation and Conservation Drive

Ocean County, NJ Residents Lead Nationwide Tree Plantation and Conservation Drive

Ocean County, NJ - On March 20th, 2024, residents of New Jersey, came together for a significant initiative in support of nationwide conservation efforts. Organized by the non-profit organization, Dr. Shri Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari Pratishthan (DSNDP), in collaboration with the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP) Division of Park and Forestry's Tree Plantation and Conservation - Sorting Tree Seedlings (STS) program, the event took place at the NJ State Nursery in Jackson.

This drive coincided with the Birth Centennial of Dr. Shri Nanasaheb Dharmadhikari and aimed to honor his legacy by contributing to environmental sustainability. Led by DSNDP volunteers, in partnership with the DEP, the initiative saw active participation from residents. The event forms part of a broader year-long Nationwide Tree Plantation and Conservation Drive spanning 13 states and 25 cities across the United States.

During the three-hour activity, eight dedicated volunteers meticulously sorted Hickory tree seedlings at the NJ State Tree Nursery. Tasks included cleaning the seedlings by removing weeds, leaves, and other debris, as well as pruning when necessary. The cleaned seedlings were then classified based on their length and grouped into bundles. In total, 143 bundles comprising 3,575 tree seedlings were cleaned, sorted, and bundled, ready for planting.
