Apartment Building Fire Sends 21 People To Temporary Housing In Lakewood
Seven families were evacuated from the building, authorities said.
LAKEWOOD, NJ — Seven families — 21 people in total — were forced from their homes on Saturday night after a fire swept through an apartment building in Lakewood, authorities said Monday.
The fire was reported shortly after 10 p.m. Saturday at the building on East County Line Road, Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith of the Lakewood Police Department said.
There were no injuries reported at the time of the fire, he said.

The fire was reported in Apartment 3 but five apartments were evacuated, Staffordsmith said. They were deemed uninhabitable, he said.
The Red Cross of New Jersey assisted the families with temporary lodging, food, clothing and immediate needs, the Red Cross said.

The Ocean County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the fire, Staffordsmith said.
