Fire In Vacant Home Under Investigation In Lakewood

The fire was burning on the second floor of the home when firefighters arrived, authorities said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A fire that significantly damaged a home on 5th Street Tuesday night is under investigation by the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office.

The fire was reported about 9 p.m. Tuesday, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.

Lakewood police and firefighters found the fire buring on the second floor of the home and were able to put it out.

The home was vacant, The Lakewood Scoop reported.

Authorities did not report any injuries. The Scoop report said people were being warned to stay away from the area while the fire was being fought because branches of a nearby tree had caught fire and were falling to the ground.

The fire is being investigated by the arson squad of the prosecutor's office, the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit, the Lakewood Township Police Department Detective Bureau, and the Ocean County Fire Marshal’s Office.
