NJ Transit Bus Hits, Kills Man Walking Along Route 88 In Lakewood
The man was hit near the entrance to the bus terminal in Lakewood; the driver has been cooperative, the prosecutor's office said.
LAKEWOOD, NJ — Authorities are investigating after an NJ Transit bus hit and killed a man on Route 88 at the entrance to the bus terminal Monday night, the Ocean County Prosecutor's Office said Tuesday.
The 32-year-old man was found lying by the side of the road near the terminal about 9:45 p.m. Monday, Prosecutor Bradley D. Billhimer said.
Lakewood police determined he had been hit by a vehicle; the man was taken to Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus in Lakewood, where he was pronounced dead, Billhimer said.

The investigation determined the man had been hit by an NJ Transit bus; the bus and its driver were found in Howell later in the evening, he said.
"The operator of the bus has been cooperative," Billhimer said.

The Vehicular Homicide and High Tech Crime units of the prosecutor's office along with Lakewood police, NJ Transit police and the Ocean County Sheriff’s Office Crime Scene Investigation Unit are investigating.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to contact Detective John Doran of the Prosecutor’s Office at 732-929-2027, ext. 3524, Billhimer said.
