Wildfire Near Lakewood Country Club Fully Contained, Officials Say

No homes or buildings were damaged by the fire that started Monday afternoon, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said.

LAKEWOOD, NJ — A wildfire burning in Pine Park near the Lakewood Country Club has been 100 percent contained, the New Jersey Forest Fire Service said Wednesday.

The fire, which started early Monday afternoon, was limited to 35 acres, the forest fire service said. Six buildings were threatened early on but no evacuations were needed and they were no longer threatened as of Tuesday afternoon.

The 100 percent containment was as of 9 a.m. Wednesday, the service said. Forest Fire Service crews will remain at the area for the next several days to continue to improve containment lines and address areas of concern to ensure public safety, until there is significant rain, officials said.

Area residents will likely to continue to smell the smoke from the fire until there is significant rain to soak smoldering embers, officials said.

Clearstream Road, which had been closed between Brewers Bridge Road and Hope Chapel Road, has been reopened, officials said.
