LAKEWOOD, NJ — A worker who was killed in an accident at Ocean County's Northern Recycling Center has been identified as a 50-year-old Eagleswood man.

Lakewood Police Capt. Gregory Staffordsmith said Timothy Hannold of the West Creek section of Eagleswood died Wednesday at the recycling center at 800 Towbin Ave.

Staffordsmith said the investigation found that Hannold was killed as recycling employees were moving a large container that had just been delivered.

At some point during the process, Hannold went in the container. Other employees, who did not know Hannold was inside, were trying to upright the dumpster, which caused the doors to shift and pin Hannold against an inside wall, killing him, Staffordsmith said.

"The Lakewood Police Department would like express their sincere condolences to his family, friends and co-workers," Staffordsmith said.
