1 Dead In Mercer Shooting, Multiple Injured Including 2 Police Officers
The incident took place on Friday night in Trenton.
MERCER COUNTY, NJ — One person was dead and multiple others injured, including two police officers, during a shooting in Trenton late Friday night, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey said.
The incident took place around 11:25 p.m., when officers on patrol near North Olden and Ohio avenues responded to a Shot Spotter alert indicating multiple gunshots in the area.
While en route to investigate, the officers' patrol vehicle was struck by a car driven by Andrew Coates, 41, of Trenton, who had been shot and lost control of his vehicle, Marbrey said.

Coates was rushed to Capital Health Regional Medical Center, where he died several hours later from his injuries.
A civilian bystander was injured when struck by Coates' out-of-control vehicle and required hospitalization. Two Trenton police officers sustained non-life-threatening injuries in the collision and were treated at a local hospital, Marbrey said.

The gunfire also caused property damage, striking two unoccupied vehicles and a residence on Indiana Avenue. No one inside the home was hurt.
The investigation is being conducted jointly by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force, the Shooting Response Team, and the Trenton Police Department. No arrests have been made.
