15-Year-Old Charged With Murder In Mercer Shooting Death: Prosecutor

The boy was arrested on Wednesday in Norfolk, Virginia, where he is being held pending extradition, authorities said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A 15-year-old Trenton boy has been arrested and charged in the shooting death of Luis Torres Marrero that took place on July 9, Mercer County Prosecutor Angelo J. Onofri said.

The boy is charged with one count of first-degree murder, one count of second-degree possession of a weapon for an unlawful purpose and one count of second-degree unlawful possession of a weapon.

He was arrested without incident on Wednesday, in Norfolk, Virginia, by the United States Marshals Service.

He will be held in Virginia pending extradition to Mercer County, Onofri said.

Around 12:25 a.m. on July 9, 2024, Trenton Police responded to the 200 block of East Hanover Street on the report of a sick or injured person.

On arrival, officers found Luis Torres Marrero, 47, of Trenton, suffering from a gunshot to his head.

Torres Marrero was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he died on July 14 as a result of his injuries, Onofri said. No other information is currently available on the shooting.

The investigation was conducted by the Mercer County Homicide Task Force (MCHTF) and the Trenton Shooting Response Team.
