17-Year-Old Shot In The Back & Killed In Mercer Co.: Officials

The teen was rushed to an area hospital for treatment but was pronounced dead, officials said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A 17-year-old Trenton teen was shot and killed over the weekend, Acting Mercer County Prosecutor Theresa L. Hilton said.

On Sunday, around 12:32 p.m., Trenton Police received a ShotSpotter activation in the area of Parkside and Homan Avenues.

When officers arrived at the scene, they found 17-year-old Opium Leverette suffering from a gunshot wound to the back.

Responding officers began rendering aid to the victim. EMS arrived and brought Leverette to Capital Health Regional Medical Center for treatment. He was pronounced dead at 1:09 p.m.
