67-Year-Old Pedestrian Struck & Killed In Mercer Co.: Police

According to Hamilton Police, the man was "inattentive" while crossing the road.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ — A 67-year-old man was struck and killed by an SUV while trying to cross the road on Thursday, Hamilton Police said.

The incident occurred around 4 p.m. Thursday, on S. Olden Avenue near the intersection with Riley Avenue.

A 2011 Ford Escape driven by Craig Gomez, 57, of Hamilton, was traveling in the westbound direction on S. Olden Ave. On nearing the intersection with Riley Avenue, Namtho Trinh, 67, of Hamilton, entered the road heading south toward the opposite side of S. Olden Avenue, police said.

Trinh was struck by the front passenger side of the Ford Escape, according to police. He was taken to Capital Health Regional Medical Center where he was declared dead.

According to preliminary investigation, Trinh may have entered the road in an “inattentive manner.”

Additionally, the sun glare at the time may have contributed to Gomez's reduced visibility. Excessive speed was not a contributing factor to the crash, police said.

The crash is being investigated by Officer M. Mancuso of the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit. Any witnesses are asked to contact the Hamilton Police Traffic Unit at (609) 581-4000.
