BBQ Ribs Cooking Class, Screening of "The Motorcycle Diaries" & More

Looking for things to do around town this week? Here are some highlights.

Monday

Movie Matinee at the Lawrence Library: The Motorcycle Diaries. Part of the recognition of Hispanic Heritage Month. Based on a true life story, The Motorcycle Diaries is the story of two friends, Ernesto “Che” Guevara and Alberto Granado, who hop on the back of a beat-up motorcycle for a road trip across Latin America in 1952.  Registration suggested.  Prior to the film, Librarian Maria Larson will speak briefly about “Che.” 2 p.m. 

The Garden Gate Garden Club of Lawrenceville invites the public to a program, "Orchids Through the Seasons" presented by Anne Skalka. She will discuss when orchids bloom and what conditions are needed to promote flowering. Lawrence Township Senior Center, 7 p.m. 

Tuesday

A performance of arias, songs, and solos for voice and guitar. The program consists of operatic arias from the works of Bellini, Dvorak, Puccini, Pergolesi; songs of Mozart, Rachmaninov, William Walton, and Georges Migot; and works for solo guitar. The Mildred & Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall (Music Building), The College of New Jersey, 8 p.m. 

Thursday

Mrs. G's Family Cooking Class Celebrating Food Day. Food Day is a nationwide celebration of healthy, affordable, and sustainably produced food and a grassroots campaign for better food policies aimed to help people Eat Real. Tyrek Ware, 15, owner of Unique Ribz, will demonstrate and share his mouth watering gourmet rib dinner with his secret BBQ sauce.  Mrs. G's Executive Chef Mary Beth will serve as Ware's assistant. Registration required, 6-7:30 p.m. 

TCNJ Chorale and Women’s Ensemble Presents: “A Hymn To Saint Cecilia: Celebrating the Union of Text and Music.” Featuring Benjamin Britten’s Hymn to St. Cecilia, Choral Dances from “Gloriana,” Psalm 150 and more. Pre-concert discussion by Dr. Philip Cave,. Tickets required. The Mildred & Ernest E. Mayo Concert Hall (Music Building), The College of New Jersey. Talk begins at 7 p.m., concert begins at 8 p.m. 

"Radio Broadcasting in America—the First 40 Years, NJ Edition." A multimedia program on the history of radio and radio broadcasting, highlighting areas and events in New Jersey that were key to the early days of radio. Registration suggested. The Lawrence Library, 7 p.m. 

Friday

Princeton Area Community Foundation's Fund for Women and Girls hosts a luncheon, 'Strong Women = Strong Communities: Investing in Girls Transforms the World.' The speaker will be Pamela Shifman of NoVo Foundation. Greenacres Country Club. Registration required. Noon to 2 p.m.
