Black Bear Sighting Near Elementary School In Mercer Prompts Safety Precaution

Indoor recess was implemented and scheduled assembly canceled as a precaution, shcool administration said.

MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A black bear was spotted near the grounds of an elementary school in Robbinsville on Thursday, prompting safety precautions for students and staff, officials said.

The Robbinsville Township Police Department, which was already present at the school for regular morning duties, immediately assisted in monitoring the situation at Sharon Elementary School.

Administrators decided to implement indoor recess for the day and postpone a scheduled assembly as precautionary measures.

"The safety of our students and staff remains our top priority," school officials stated in a communication to families. "We are in continuous communication with the Robbinsville Township Police Department as they continue to monitor the situation closely."
