Rabid Fox Reported In Lawrence, Had Contact With Local Pet

Residents or their pets who have had any contact with a fox in the past 14 days should call the health department immediately.

LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ - A fox found recently in the township has tested positive for rabies, authorities said.

The fox was found on Villanova Drive and had contact with a neighborhood pet.

Any resident or their pet who had any contact with a fox in the past 14 days should call the Lawrence Township Health Department immediately at (609) 844-7092.

Here are some signs that might help residents recognize a rabid animal:

  • Aggressive or vicious behavior ("furious" rabies)
  • Dazed appearance with partial/total paralysis ("dumb" rabies)
  • Trouble walking, appearing "drunk"
