LHS Career Academy Students Visit Manhattan

Students in Lawrence High School's new Academy of Business and International Studies took a field trip to New York City, where they toured the New York Stock Exchange, the Federal Reserve Bank, the Institute of Culinary Education, and other sites.

On Sept. 30, 39 Lawrence High School students from the new Academy of Business and International Studies went on a "fashion and finance" trip to New York City.

The trip catered to students in the academy who are interested in careers in the culinary arts, fashion or business.

The "finance" strand visited downtown Manhattan and walked the New York Stock Exchange floor. The students talked to actual traders and got a great picture opportunity when Warren Buffet gave an interview to CNN just inches away from them.

They continued on to a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank and its gold vault, and then walked through the Ground Zero area.

The "fashion" group visited mid-town Manhattan and toured the Institute of Culinary Education, where students observed the daily schedule of a culinary student. They also toured the corporate offices of Macy’s department store and did a walking tour of the showrooms in the infamous New York Garment District.
