LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ — Mercer County has launched a mobile outreach van this summer to bring social services directly to residents who struggle with transportation barriers.

County Executive Dan Benson and Mercer County Board of Social Services Director Jeff Mascoll announced the new Community Outreach Van initiative, which will travel to neighborhoods throughout the county to provide access to essential services at locations like libraries, community centers, houses of worship, food pantries, and schools.

"Transportation remains one of the biggest challenges for many Americans—not only in accessing services, but also employment, healthcare, and childcare," Benson said. "By bringing our services directly into communities, we're breaking down barriers and meeting people where they are. This initiative opens the door for residents who may not otherwise engage with us to learn how we can support them."

The mobile service addresses a common problem faced by residents who need assistance with food programs, financial aid, employment services, and other social services but cannot easily travel to county offices.

"The Board of Social Services provides essential support in areas such as food assistance, financial aid, employment services, and more," Mascoll said. "But too often, people simply have difficulty connecting with us. This outreach van gives us the opportunity to connect with individuals and families in their own communities—and ultimately improve their quality of life."
