MERCER COUNTY, NJ – A New Jersey man who went missing on Tuesday while swimming in the Delaware River has been found dead, authorities said.

Bucks County Coroner Patti Campi told Patch Thursday that the body of the swimmer was found on Wednesday night. Campi said she did not know the identity of the man as of yet or the cause of death.
The swimmer's body was found in Yardley Borough, Councilman Jared Stump said.

He said the Marine Rescue Unit of the Yardley-Makefield Fire Company pulled the swimmer's body from the river.

On Tuesday, the Lambertville-New Hope Ambulance and Rescue Squad responded to a call involving a 23-year-old man who went missing while swimming in the river. The man was a Trenton resident, said Larry Hajna, spokesperson of the NJDEP.

He was last seen in the Delaware River near the Firemen’s Eddy section of the Delaware & Raritan Canal State Park in West Amwell Township

“The river can be incredibly deceptive. Even strong swimmers can find themselves in danger within moments. Currents can change quickly. Depths can surprise you. And emergencies can happen in an instant,” the Rescue Squad said.

“Please—always wear a personal flotation device when you’re on or near the water.”

The New Jersey State Police were leading the search, which was suspended on Wednesday “due to adverse water conditions.”

The case remains under active investigation by the New Jersey State Park Police and Lower Makefield Police Department, with support from the Bucks County Coroner’s Office and other agencies, Hajna said.
