Mother, Teen Daughter Shot To Death In NJ Home

They were found dead of gunshot wounds in a Trenton home Saturday morning, prosecutor says.

TRENTON, NJ — A mother and her 13-year-old daughter were found shot to death in a Trenton home Saturday morning, Mercer County Prosecutor Janetta D. Marbrey said.

The prosecutor's office on Sunday afternoon identified the woman as Malika Whiting and the young teen as Jairah Biggs.

According to a release by Marbrey's office, the Mercer County homicide task force and the Trenton Police Department are investigating the shooting. At about 10:30 a.m., Trenton police responded to a residence in the 300 block of West State Street after receiving a 911 call reporting two deceased victims at that location, Marbrey's release said.

Upon arrival, officers located a 13-year-old girl in a third-floor bedroom with a gunshot wound and a woman, 40, in the stairway leading to the third floor, the release said.

Both mother and daughter were pronounced dead at the scene, the release said.

A person of interest was detained on unrelated charges; no arrests have been made, and the arrest is ongoing, Marbrey said.
