Obituary: Mark Anthony Cermele Jr., 66
The past commander of Lawrence Township American Legion Post 414 will be laid to rest on Monday.

Mark Anthony Cermele Jr., 66, of Ewing died peacefully Wednesday, Dec. 26, at Capital Health Medical Center at Hopewell.
Born in Trenton, Mark was a resident of Ewing for the past 33 years. He was employed as a letter carrier with the U.S. Postal service for the last 20 years.
Mark graduated from Trenton Central High School in 1965. He served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War and was discharged with the rank of staff sergeant in 1970.

He was awarded a Certificate of Merit from Lawrence Township and a New Jersey Senate and General Assembly citation for his service to his country.
Mark continued his education at Mercer County Community College, graduated in 1973, and was a member of the Phi Theta Kappa National Honor Fraternity.

He was a member for 39 years of American Legion Post 414 in Lawrence Township and served as a commander, adjutant and member of the color guard. He also held membership in the V.F.W. Post 3022 and AmVets Post 1776.
Son of the late Mark A. Cermele Sr and Mary Leoniec Cermele, he is survived by his wife of 34 years, Joan R. Schneider Cermele; his daughters, Susan Ferdetta and her husband Alphonse of Florence and Lauren Hurlbut and her husband Glenn of New Hartford, N.Y.; his grandchildren, Britney and Andrew Ferdetta; his brother Anthony Cermele and his wife Karin; his sisters, Mary Szalczyk and her husband Stephen, and Rosemary Sorensen; his sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Ellen and Robert Foti; and many aunts, uncles, nephews, cousins and beloved friends.
Funeral services for Mark will be held on Monday, Dec. 31, at 9 a.m. at Poulson & Van Hise Funeral Directors, 650 Lawrence Rd., Lawrence Township, with the clergy of the Church of St. Ann officiating. Burial will follow in Brig. Gen. Wm. C. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Arneytown.
Friends may call on Sunday, Dec. 30, from 1 to 5 p.m. at the funeral home.
