Obituary: Theresa 'Tessie' Nictakis, 97

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 6, at 1 p.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Rd., Hamilton

Theresa (nee Xanthos) ”Tessie” Nictakis, 97, of Lawrence Township, passed away on Wednesday Aug. 1, at the Lawrenceville Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Lawrence.

Born in Sparta, Greece, Theresa came to America when she was six weeks old and lived in Newark, New Jersey where she attended Central One School.

Theresa moved to Trenton after her marriage to her husband William J. Nictakis, who graduated Rider College and was a businessman and accountant.

Theresa was a sheriff’s officer for the County of Mercer, and later worked for the Mercer County Board of Elections Office where she retired in 1980 after 16 years of service.

She was a member of St. George Greek Orthodox Church, its Seniors Club, the Philoptocos Society, the Lawrenceville Plaza Seniors Club 4, Lawrence Township Republican Club, The Happy Knitting Club of Princeton, and the Ashlar Chapter 169. She also was a Greek interpreter for the Mercer County Courthouse.

Theresa loved so much finding people employment opportunities.

She was daughter of the late Stefanos and Eleni Petridis Xanthos; granddaughter of the late Father Anastios Petrides of Sparta Greece; wife of the late William J. Nictakis; mother of the late Dr. Peter E. Nictakis; grandmother of the late Sonny Nictakis, who was the love of her life; and sister of the late Fanny Louvis, William Xanthos, Catherine Dendrinos, Penelope Anton, and Spero Xanthos.

She is survived by a Son and two daughters-in-law Steven and Joeann Nictakis of Ewing, and Mary Jean Nictakis of Lawrence; two daughters Alice N. Crusade of New Hampshire, and Dena N. Picatagi of Hamilton; 10 grandchildren; 20 great-grandchildren; a sister-in-law Vasiliki Xanthos of Toms River; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Theresa cherished Spiro and Malvina to say the least, and she will miss Mayor Jack Rafferty and Congressman Chris Smith.

Funeral services will be Monday, Aug. 6, 1 p.m. at St. George Greek Orthodox Church, 1200 Klockner Rd., Hamilton, N.J. 08619.

Burial will be in the Greek Section of the Greenwood Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Monday from noon until time of services at the church. There will be no calling hours at the funeral home.
