Pork Roll Eating Contest & River Celebration Merge For Ultimate Mercer Festival

MERCER COUNTY, NJ - The Trenton Thunder, Mercer County, and the Watershed Institute are collaborating to combine two beloved community events into one spectacular free festival.

The expanded RiverFest, merging the traditional RiverFest with Trenton River Days, will take place Saturday, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Trenton Thunder ballpark with free admission and parking.

The highlight will be the ninth annual World Famous Case's Pork Roll Eating Championship, a 10-minute Major League Eating-sanctioned competition.

Geoff Esper has owned the Pork Roll for three years straight. He will be back in action, eyeing his fourth win.

With the world’s top competitive eaters hot on his heels, this 10-minute pork-powered showdown promises sizzling suspense and savory spectacle.

A total of $4,000 will be given out as prizes. Here's the breakdown:

• 1st: $2,000
• 2nd: $1,000
• 3rd: $600
• 4th: $300
• 5th: $100

“By combining RiverFest and River Days, we’re offering our community an even bigger and better celebration of Trenton, the Delaware River, and all the wonderful things our region has to offer. And this year, we’re thrilled to offer free admission and free parking to ensure everyone can join in the fun!” said Jon Bodnar, Trenton Thunder General Manager.

Activities will span the Thunder's back parking lot and inside the ballpark. The outdoor area features educational exhibits from Mercer County and local organizations, canoe and boat rides on the Delaware River, live music, hayrides from Howell Living History Farm, and fly fishing demonstrations by the Ernest Schwiebert Chapter of Trout Unlimited.

“Events like this help us connect with families and individuals of all ages in a fun, engaging way while highlighting the critical need to protect our water resources,” said Jim Waltman, Executive Director of The Watershed Institute.

Inside the ballpark, attendees can enjoy food featuring Trenton's iconic Case's Pork Roll, craft beer selections, and live performances by local bands including Modern Mojo.

The event includes a youth art contest for ages 7-13 celebrating the Delaware River. The winning artist receives dinner gift cards, ballgame tickets, and the opportunity to throw the opening pitch of the 2026 Thunder season.
