Rider 7th of 12 at the Metro Honda Peacock Invitational

Golf team is tuning up for MAAC championships.

In the final tune up before the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference championships, the Rider University golf team finished seventh of 12 teams at the Metro Honda Peacock Invitational, hosted by Saint Peter’s University at the par 72, 7,016 yard Neshanic Valley Golf Club. 

Rider finished with a team score of 309.

MAAC-rival Fairfield won the tournament (297) with Central Connecticut and Monmouth finishing in a tie for second place with a 301.

For Rider, senior Evan McGrain (West Windsor/W. Windsor-Plainsboro South) tied for sixth place out of 63 golfers with a 73, finishing one shot out of the lead.

Also for the Broncs, junior James Buttermark (Staten Island, N.Y./Monsignor Farrell) tied for 20th with a five-over par 77.

Sophomore Luke Liddell (Philadelphia, Pa./Father Judge) scored a 79 to finish tied for 30th, freshman Joe Hughes (Tabernacle/Seneca) tied for 34th with an 80 and sophomore Cole Clark (Califon/Voorhees) tied for 60th with an 88.

The MAAC championships take place April 26-28 at Disney’s Palm Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
