Second Suspect Arrested in Deadly Hit-and-Run

A Ewing Township woman arrested on Nov. 4 and a Rider University student arrested Nov. 2 have been charged as the suspected drivers of the two vehicles that struck and killed a man in Ewing Township on Oct. 28.

A Ewing Township woman has been arrested as the suspected second driver involved in the hit-and-run accident that claimed the life of a man in Ewing Township on Oct. 28, the Mercer County Prosecutor’s Office announced today (Nov. 7).

Marie Jean, 52, of Berwyn Avenue, Ewing, was charged on Friday (Nov. 4) with death by auto and leaving the scene of a motor vehicle accident resulting in death, the prosecutor’s office said.

Last Wednesday (Nov. 2), . Gallagher, , is a resident of Flanders in Morris County.

Both are second-degree crimes, each carrying a penalty of five to 10 years in state prison, the prosecutor’s office said.

The deadly accident occurred just before 10:40 p.m. on Oct. 28 as Carl Wilkins, 54, of Trenton, was attempting to walk across Parkside Avenue near Ives Avenue in Ewing Township.

Authorities allege that Gallagher was driving a Jeep and Jean was driving a BMW that both hit Wilkins. Both vehicles fled and Wilkins was pronounced dead at the scene, according to authorities.

Wilkins’ death remains under investigation by Mercer County Prosecutor’s Detective Tony Abarno and Ewing police Patrolman Robert Birchenough.  Anyone with information is asked to call Birchenough at (609) 882-1313 extension 5589.
