The Week Ahead in Lawrenceville

Summer concert series highlights events in and around town this week.

Monday

Stay Cool Fun, Lawrence Township Senior Center, 6 p.m. 

The Lawrence Township Senior Center is open for its annual "Stay Cool Fun Nights." The Center is open for bingo, computers, cards and games. Refreshments sponsored by local agencies serving seniors will be provided. The fun nights are free, but you must be 60 and older.Call the senior center for more information at 609-844-7048.

Tuesday

Kites! Kites! Kites!, Lawrence Nature Center, 7 p.m.

Make your own kite with paper artist Brett Smith, then fly your creation along the beautiful Lawrence Nature Center meadow. at 481 Drexel Ave. Please preregister by e-mailing lawrencenaturecenter@gmail.com. Include your name, the number attending, children's ages, and a phone number to contact you in case of program changes.

Wednesday

Politcal Book Club meeting, Lawrence Library, Lawrenceville, 7 p.m.

The Political Book Club will be discussing  the book Heat: How to Stop the Planet from Burning by George Monbiot.  They will talk about global warming and climate change issues.  The talk will be led by Steve Welzer,  the Green Party Candidate for Governor.  It should be noted that you do not have to read the book in order to participate in this important discussion on climate change and global warming. 

Thursday

Foreign and Independent Films at Your Library: Free Men (2011), Lawrence Library, Lawrenceville, 6:30 p.m.

In German-occupied Paris, a young unemployed Algerian named Younes earns his living as a black marketeer. Arrested by the French police but given a chance to avoid jail, Younes agrees to spy on the Paris Mosque where he meets the Algerian singer Salim Halali and is moved by Salim's beautiful voice and strong personality. When Younes discovers that Salim is Jewish, his own personality changes. French with English subtitles. Not rated. 99 minutes. Refreshments will be served. Registration suggested.

Friday

Mercer County Summer Concert Series "Steve Maglio Band,"1638 Old Trenton Rd West Windsor, 6 p.m.

The first of the four part Summer Concert Series features the Steve Maglio band.  The summer wind will be coming off Lake Mercer as Steve performs Frank Sinatra’s greatest hits.  Beer and wine garden on site. Food available for purchase.
