Track and Field Teams Hit Colonial Relays

The Rider track and field teams competed in the 48th Annual Colonial Relays over the weekend.

The Rider University men’s and women’s track and field teams competed at the 48th Annual Colonial Relays hosted by the College of William and Mary during the weekend of April 6 and 7.

After Saturday, the Bronc women finished 10th (36-points) out of 27-teams and the Bronc men finished 11th (35-points) out of 31-teams.

Rutgers University won both the men’s and women’s team competition.

For the Rider men, senior David Hightower (Easton, Pa/Easton) finished third in the 110-meter hurdle finals (14.74).

For the Rider women, freshman Dashana Ransome (Irvington) finished fourth in the 100-meter hurdle finals (14.34) in ECAC qualifying time. Ransome set a new Rider record in the 100-meter hurdles in the preliminary race Friday (14.18). 

Also for the Rider men, senior James Burroughs (West Orange) was fifth in the 110-hurdle finals (14.85).

The women’s 4x100-meter relay team of Ransome, senior Mia Riley (West Caldwell/James Caldwell), freshman Miranda Roberts (Sewell/Washington Twp.) and freshman La’tazah Coleman (Middletown, Del./Appoquinimink) was fifth (47.96) and the 4x200-meter relay team of Ransome, sophomore Ashley Edwards (Westfield), senior Erin McMullin (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and Riley finished fifth (1:42.96).

The men’s 4x200-meter relay team of freshman Darnell Charles (Mays Landing/Oakcrest), junior Wilvenson Baptiste (Irvington), senior Dave Brown (Ewing) and Hightower was fifth (1:27.97) and the 4x800-meter relay team of junior Joseph Carlin (Staten Island, N.Y./Staten Island Tech), freshman Tom McLaughlin (Egg Harbor), freshman Darien Edwards (South Orange/St. Benedicts) and senior Greg Wesh (Hatboro,Pa./Hatboro-Horsham) was sixth in 7:41.78.

The women’s sprint medley relay team of Riley, Edwards, senior Lauren Findley (Hallstead, Pa./Blue Ridge) and sophomore Emily Ritter (Millsboro, Del/Sussex Tech) was sixth (4:12.80)

The Rider men finished ninth and the women were 17th at the 2012 Colonial Relays.

The Rider men and women will return home to host the Rider Invite Saturday, April 13.
