Woman Seriously Injured in Accident on Route 206

The accident - the second alleged drunk driving crash in Lawrence Township within five hours - took place just before 3:35 a.m. Friday in front of the Adath Israel Congregation synagogue.

A woman was badly hurt early this morning (Friday, Oct. 28) when the minivan she was driving veered off Lawrence Road (Route 206) in Lawrence Township and slammed into a tree on the front lawn of the Adath Israel Congregation synagogue.

The woman, Lauren McBride, 22, of Bridgewater Township, was trapped inside her 2000 Oldsmobile and had to be extricated by volunteer firefighters from the Lawrence Road, Lawrenceville and Slackwood fire companies, police Sgt. Chris Longo said.

After being freed from the wreckage, McBride was rushed by ambulance to the trauma center at Capital Health Regional Medical Center in Trenton, where she was reported to be in serious condition, Longo said.

McBride was going south when she crashed in the 1900 block of Lawrence Road, Longo said.

Police were first alerted to the crash at 3:35 a.m. Firefighters, in turn, were dispatched and used hydraulic rescue tools to cut away parts of the vehicle. McBride was extricated by 4:02 a.m., fire officials said.

Longo said McBride was being charged by the investigating officer, Officer Todd Sparks, with driving under the influence and reckless driving.

Lawrence Road was closed in both directions between the south entrance of Rider University and Darrah Lane for about two hours while police investigated and the wreckage was cleared away.

It was the second accident involving an alleged drunk driver in Lawrence Township within five hours. .
