Changes in LS Polling Places and More From Mayor

A post-Hurricane Sandy update from Little Silver Mayor Robert C. Neff, Jr.:

POWER

JCP&L continues to slowly bring power back to Little Silver. However, the electric company advises that it may be Wednesday before the majority of residents have power. As of Saturday afternoon, only about 580 users of some 2,800 users in the borough had been returned to power, according to JCP&L.

Please turn off all circuit breakers prior to power being restored. When power is restored, turn breakers on one by one.

EMERGENCY WARMING STATION

Those who wish to warm up my stop in at the Little Silver Library behind Borough Hall at 480 Prospect Avenue between 10 a.m. and 8:30 p.m. on Monday. The library is NOT a shelter and has limited capacity, so please use it only as a spot to get out of the cold for a bit if necessary. Cell phones may be charged there as outlets are available.

CURFEW/SECURITY

The curfew for non-flood areas is now 10 p.m. to 7 a.m., and the curfew for flood areas remains 7 p.m. - 7 a.m. Please observe the curfew to assist our police and security personnel in maintaining safety and security for those properties hardest hit by flood damage.   

ELECTIONS

Elections are scheduled as usual on Tuesday, Nov. 6. Voting locations, regardless of whether power is restored on Tuesday, will be as follows: District One, which usually votes at Borough Hall, will continue to vote at Borough Hall; Districts Two and Four, which usually vote at the Women's Club, will vote at the Little Silver Library behind the Borough Hall at 480 Prospect Avenue; District Three, which usually votes at St. John's Church, will vote at Borough Hall; District 5, which usually votes at Point Road School, will vote at the Markham Place School; and District's Six and Seven, which usually vote at Markham Place School, will continue to vote at Markham Place School.

DISASTER ASSISTANCE 

Those without insurance or with uncovered disaster expenses may apply for assistance by calling (800) 621-FEMA, or by logging on to disasterassistance.gov.

EMERGENCIES

Please call 911 for all emergencies. Please call the police for non-emergency matters at (732) 747-5900. Please do not call the police about power outages or with questions about when power may be restored. They do not have this information and need to be free to handle emergency calls.

DEBRIS REMOVAL

The Borough is moving as quickly as it can to pick up limbs, brush, and other vegetative debris. Household trash pickup is proceeding on schedule. Recycling pickup is presently suspended, but the recycling station at the DPW facility on Fairview Avenue is manned for those who wish to drop off.

Please do not put out extremely heavy bags or containers. Many small containers or bags work better and are moreeasily picked up by our hauler. With respect to large flood-related debris, including furniture, pilings, and other bulk items, the Borough is exploring the feasibility of bringing in a hauler to assist those whose insurance does not cover retention of a hauler or the rental of a dumpster, particularly in flooded areas. The Borough does not normally remove this material, and does not itself have the personnel or capacity to collect it. We will update this process as it moves forward, but in the meantime, please take advantage of any insurance coverage that may provide you with the ability to have this heavy debris removed.  

Halloween Postponed

Trick-or-treating will be postponed from Monday, Nov. 5 due to hazardous conditions around town and rescheduled for a future date.

Officials have decided to postpone reopening schools on Tuesday, Nov. 6 due to hazardous conditions around town.
