Flooding Closes Little Silver Schools Monday
"The only course of action was to close the schools for (Monday)," said the Little Silver school superintendent.
LITTLE SILVER, NJ — While many New Jersey homeowners suffered water in their basements this past weekend — when a month's worth of rain fell in a two-day time period — the flooding was so bad in Little Silver that schools did not open Monday.
Two Little Silver school buildings suffered flood damage, said superintendent Eric Platt: Point Road School and Markham Place, with the issues "more significant" at Point Road School.
He announced the district would be closed Monday, and reopen Tuesday, May 2 as normally scheduled, in this letter to parents.

"With heavy rains still falling throughout the night and into the early morning, the only course of action was to close the schools for today," wrote the superintendent. "Students may notice that some classroom rugs and soft items are temporarily missing (as they are being taken to be cleaned, dried and treated) but our buildings will be dry and safe."
"Heavy rains over the course of the weekend led to large amounts of ground water and significant tidal swells in the borough of Little Silver," he added.
