Little Silver School Superintendent Placed On Paid Leave

The school district refuses to say why Michael Ettore has been placed on leave since October. He has been paid his salary the entire time.

LITTLE SILVER, NJ — Michael Ettore, the superintendent of the Little Silver school district, has been placed on administrative leave since mid-October.

However, as this is a paid leave, he has been getting paid by the school district the entire time. He has been paid his yearly salary of $173,400.

It is unknown why Ettore was placed on administrative leave; the Little Silver Board of Education did not answer when asked by Patch. School districts usually cannot say why an employee is placed on leave, as it is confidential personnel matters.

However, the school board also did not answer when asked what Ettore's annual salary is. Patch has filed an OPRA (Open Public Records Act) request to require the school district to disclose his taxpayer-funded salary, which should be public information.

Before he became the superintendent of Little Silver schools, Ettore was the Monmouth Beach superintendent, where he was paid $135,000 a year.

His leave was publicly announced in these minutes released by the Little Silver Board of Education from their Oct. 11 meeting.

"Michael Ettore is immediately placed on paid administrative leave and relieved of the duties of the position of superintendent," read the minutes.

Eric Platt, who used to be the principal of the Markham Place School, has assumed the duties of acting Little Silver superintendent in the meantime.

Ettore started his career as a math teacher in the Little Silver school district, a job he had for 10 years. He has also been an elementary school principal in Marlboro and Holmdel.
