LS Schools to Address School Safety With Students on Monday

Morning meetings will address school safety and not the Connecticut shootings directly.

A message from Little Silver Superintendent of Schools Dr. Carolyn Kossack:

There has been a tremendous amount of Media saturation regarding the CT tragedy.   One parent of younger children has asked me if we were going to address the issue with the children, because if we were, she wanted to speak with her children first.  I realize this is a highly sensitive and highly emotional issue.  Here is how we intend to address it:

1. There will be emergency faculty meetings at both buildings at 7:40 AM.  Faculties will be provided with CPR/Morning Meeting scripts that deal with "school safety"  - not the CT disaster specifically.  However, all staff will be provided with resources that include how best to address student issues (by age category) should the children initiate conversation regarding the tragedy.

2. Staff will be reminded to reinforce with students the "do's and don'ts" of school safety protocols (i.e. not opening doors for anyone, not leaving doors open, safety drill protocols, etc)

I placed some parent resources on our webpage yesterday should you choose to initiate a conversation with your children.

Sincerely,

Carolyn Kossack
