Priscilla Ireland Brower, Lifelong Resident Of Monmouth Beach, Dies at 93

Services for former school teacher, Board of Education member slated for Tuesday and Wednesday.

Priscilla Ireland Brower, 93, of Monmouth Beach, died Thursday, March 26, 2015 at home.

Born in East Orange, she was a life resident of Monmouth Beach. Mrs. Brower was a 1939 graduate of St. Mary’s Academy, in Burlington and a graduate of University of Pennsylvania, where she received her Bachelor’s and Master’s in Education.

She was a retired school teacher for Monmouth Beach Elementary School as well substituting and tutoring within Monmouth Beach for many years. Mrs. Brower was a member of the Monmouth Beach School Board, the Monmouth Beach Historical Committee, the American Association of University Women, the Long Branch Women’s Club, a 20-year member of the Board of Elections, and a founding member of the Shade Tree Commission.

In 2009 the Borough dedicated the Shorelands Park in her honor, renaming it The Priscilla Ireland Brower Park at Shorelands. She was a lifetime member of St. George-by-the-River Episcopal Church in Rumson, where she served as Sunday school teacher and volunteered for the Canterbury Fair for many years.

She was predeceased by her husband, Colonel Edwin L. Brower, Sr. in 2012; her son Larry Brower and her infant daughter, Grace Madeline Brower. She is survived by her son James Brower and his fiancée Dr. Lynn Kowalski; a granddaughter, Hope Brower; two step-grandchildren, Jason Storbeck and his fiancée Jennifer Rauber, and Jessica and Ryan Conrad; and a step-great-grandchild, Liam A. Conrad.

Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. to 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31at the Damiano Funeral Home, 191 Franklin Ave., (corner of Third Ave.) in Long Branch. The funeral Mass will at 10:30 a.m. on Wednesday, April 1, 2015 at St. George-by-the-River Episcopal Church, 7 Lincoln Ave., Rumson. Interment will follow at Fair View Cemetery, Middletown.
