Some Little Silver Biz Still Open Monday

A tour of Little Silver's downtown businesses Monday morning revealed that while some are waiting for the weather to progress to decide whether to close up shop, some business owners opted to stay dark and wait out Hurricane Sandy.

You won't be able to satisfy your hankering for pizza at Olivia's, which is closed Monday, but Gianni's should be open for business through dinnertime. You can still stock up on storm essentials like beer and wine at the Little Silver Bottle Shop, which is open until 4 p.m. Monday, according to owner Bill Kenney.

Lou Cardace, a manager over at the Wells Fargo on Prospect Avenue, said the bank would probably close late morning and Kim DiGeorge at the Little Silver Post Office said they were closing up the office and delivery at 10:30 a.m. Monday and was waiting to hear whether they would open Tuesday.

Ross Brown, the pharmacist at Little Silver Family Pharmacy, said at around 10 a.m. there were no firm plans in place to close, which was the same story over at the A&P, where shoppers roamed the aisles for last-minute storm supplies.

The group of all-male customers at Grandma's Bagels at around 9:30 a.m. chatted while they waited for their orders. Rick McCoy, who lives in Alderbrook, said that he's less concerned about the amount of rain the hurricane brings than the winds and flooding. "It's bad right now, but it isn't horrible," he said.
