Young Woman, Little Silver Fire Co. Member, Passes Away After Illness

After a brief illness, Elizabeth "Lizzie" Gilmour passed away Monday. All are welcome at a public memorial service for her Friday evening:

LITTLE SILVER, NJ — A young woman who was a volunteer with the Little Silver Fire Company passed away this week.

After a brief illness, Elizabeth “Lizzie” Mahar Gilmour passed away on Monday, February 6, according to her obituary.

Lizzie particularly helped out at the fire company's annual Christmas tree sales, where she was a fixture every December. She was a lifelong resident of Little Silver, and worked at St. John’s Nursery school, a job she loved.

"We regret to announce the passing of Elizabeth 'Lizzie' Mahar Gilmour. Lizzie was a dedicated social member of the Little Silver Fire Company, who was always so enthusiastic about Christmas tree sales. She was loved by all who knew her. She will truly be missed," the Little Silver Fire Co. posted Wednesday on their Facebook page.

There will be a memorial gathering from 5-7 p.m. this Friday, Feb. 10 at St. George’s-by-the-River (7 Lincoln Ave, Rumson, NJ 07760) and anyone who knew Lizzie is welcome and encouraged to attend.

Lizzie loved the Rumson Episcopal church, where she proudly served every Sunday morning as an acolyte. She was also on the altar guild, volunteered for the Canterbury Art Show and was a committee chair for the Canterbury Fair. She loved running the cotton candy machine at the yearly spring festival.

"Lizzie will be remembered for her ability to love without condition. She now gets to ask God all of the questions she always said she would," her obituary read. "In the end, Lizzie was able to give the gift of sight to someone in need; who now gets to see the world through her eyes."

Her funeral will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, February 11 at St. George’s-by-the-River. Thompson Memorial Home of Red Bank is handling arrangements.
