Off-Duty Long Branch Police Officer 'Slashed' In Early Morning Incident: Police Chief

LONG BRANCH, NJ - An off-duty Long Branch police officer was assaulted early this morning during an altercation, Acting Police Chief Jason Roebuck said.

Joyce was slashed in the arm at around 3:30 a.m. at Norwood Avenue and High Street, Roebuck told nj.com

He taken to an area hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries and released several hours later, Roebuck said.

Back in 2010, Joyce, 34, was suspended without pay after he was charged with aggravated assault when he punched a man in the face at a nightclub in Neptune Township. He pleaded guilty to simple assault and was sentenced a a year's probation.

He received a Valor Award in 2013 after he and Long Branch police officer Robert Bell disarmed a armed man in a bar.
