Eatontown Nurse Surrenders License In Wake Of Child Sex Charges

Richard Matthew Baines is accused of endangering the welfare of a child and viewing or possessing sexual images of a child.

An Eatontown nurse has agreed to voluntarily surrender his nursing license to the state while he is being investigated for endangering the welfare of a child and viewing or possessing an item depicting the sexual exploitation of a child, according to the state Attorney General's Office.

Richard Matthew Baine was arrested on March 20, 2017 in Eatontown and agreed to surrender his nursing license until the investigation is completed, said Attorney General Christopher Porrino said.

“The exploitation of children, such as that alleged here, is one of the most serious crimes that can be committed," he said. "When a nurse is facing these types of charges, the action taken by the Board is not only appropriate, but necessary. We must protect the public from those who refuse to live up to the moral standards demanded as a condition of their licensure.”

Baine agreed to hand over his graduation certificates from his wallet and his framed document to the state Board of Nursing.

“When alerted to these charges, the Board moved quickly to secure the surrender of this nurse’s license,” said Steve Lee, Director of the Division of Consumer Affairs. “It is important to maintain the integrity of the nursing profession, particularly in light of such serious charges. Public safety and confidence depend on it.”
