Small Fire Causes Evacuation of Monmouth University Building
Construction work caused fire

A small fire in a Monmouth University classroom building was quickly extinguished Monday morning.
According to school public information officer Petra Ludwig Shaw, the fire occurred in Bey Hall shortly after 10 a.m.

Shaw said a smoke condition occurred when welding work sparked the insulation during a classroom renovation project.
No students were in the classroom, but the building was evacuated as the West Long Branch Fire Department was called to the scene.

Shaw said the fire was "immediately extinguished" and that no injuries were were reported.
