UPDATE: Long Branch Standoff Over: Man Charged In Two Stabbings

Long Branch police arrested a possible illegal immigrant today who barricaded himself in a Ludlow Avenue home and charged him with stabbing two people in the neck recently.

Denismar Andrade, 27, taken into custody on Wednesday after a long standoff with law enforcement authorities, said Monmouth County Prosecutor Christopher Gramiccioni said.

Andrade is accused of stabbing two Long Branch residents in the neck with a knife during an early morning robbery on Saturday, Feb. 18. The two victims have been released from the hospital and are expected to survive, the prosecutor said.

Police found Andrade hiding inside the wall of a basement of 224 Ludlow Avenue, with a stash of food and water, Gramiccioni said.

The Monmouth County Emergency Response Team (MOCERT) was deployed to the address and found Andrade hiding in the basement. Once he was located, he was arrested without incident on Wednesday afternoon, he said.

Detectives have no reason to believe that Andrade acted in concert with anyone and there is no further danger to the public, Gramiccioni said.

The agencies who assisted include: the Long Branch Police Department, the U.S. Marshal’s Office, the Long Branch Fire Department, Officers of the Monmouth County Emergency Response and Rapid Deployment Teams, the Monmouth County Sheriff’s Office, and in particular, the Sheriff’s Office K-9 Uni, he said.

U.S. Marshals responded because U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) had a detainer on Andre since 2006. An ICE detainer is a notification to local and state law enforcement agencies that a person is possibly eligible for deportation.
