Suspects tried to make off with thousands of dollars worth of products, police said.

WASHINGTON TOWNSHIP, NJ — Three suspects have been arrested following two incidents of shoplifting at Target, according to the Washington Township Police blotter.
The first incident occurred recently when police were dispatched to Target after a Hackettstown man was detained for shoplifting.
Police said a Target employee explained that the man was stopped while attempting to leave the store with unpaid health supplements valued at “several hundred dollars.”

Police said the two women, both from Binghamton, New York, had attempted to steal around $1,300 worth of cosmetic and beauty products.
Both suspects were arrested, processed, and released on complaint summonses and are pending court appearances, police said.
The identities of the victims were not released by authorities.
Over the last few years, Targets across the country have closed their doors, with representatives citing retail theft as the main cause.
“We cannot continue operating these stores because theft and organized retail crime are threatening the safety of our team and guests, and contributing to unsustainable business performance,” a 2023 Target statement read. “We know that our stores serve an important role in their communities, but we can only be successful if the working and shopping environment is safe for all.”
