LONG VALLEY, NJ — There are many reasons to celebrate this holiday season in Long Valley. Here are just a few of them.

Turkey Trot - Nov. 25 - There’s still time to sign up for the West Morris Central High School Memorial 5K Turkey Trot, honoring Kyleigh D'Alessio, Tanner Birch and Stephen Bertsler, with proceeds from the race going to scholarships in their names, as well as to benefit recreational projects in Washington Township and West Morris Central's Project Graduation. Holiday Home Decorating Contest - Nov. 30 signup deadline - join in on the "Holiday Light Fight" and get your home in the holiday spirit. Find out how to join in here, with judging for the contest happening between Dec. 6 and 8.

Gingerbread House-Making Contest - Register by Dec. 1 - for the contest, hosted by the Junior Women’s Club, which is part of the Dec. 5 Holiday Happenings lineup. Find out more here.

Gingerbread Decorating Workshop - Dec. 3 - Murello said this is a free workshop for the first 10 families between 5 and 6 p.m. at the Senior Center, 35 East Springtown Road, with families picking the time that fits best into their schedules.

Hanukkah Menorah Lighting - Dec 4. - In his recent Mayor’s Update, Mayor Matt Murello says people should come to the Chesapeake Tavern on 1 West Mill Road to help light the Menorah. This is happening on the outside porch of the tavern on Dec. 4 from 5-5:30 p.m., on Hanukkah's seventh night, with music by Debbie Apsel part of the festivities. Holiday Happenings - Dec. 4 and 5 - Around town there will be various celebrations when Holiday Happenings returns, with Murello inviting the community to a community service at Zion Lutheran Church, as well as the 35th annual Christmas Tree Lighting. Find out more here.

Senior Luncheon - Dec. 6 - In his Update, Murello directed seniors to the Washington Township Annual Senior Holiday Luncheon, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at The Chandelier at Flanders Valley on 80 Pleasant Hill Road in Flanders. Attendees can register at www.wtmorris.org or call the recreation department at 908-876-5941.

Wreaths Across America - Dec. 18 - Murello invited everyone to a ceremony at St. Mark’s Parish Hall at noon, with police and veterans joining, which follows with visits to cemeteries throughout Washington Township to place 365 wreaths on the graves of Washington Township veterans.
