Dispose Of Unused Meds At Long Valley’s ‘Take Back Day’ Location

Residents can anonymously dispose of unwanted and unused medication in a safe manner.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — The Washington Township Police Department will once again be participating in ‘National Take Back Day,’ a federal initiative to collect unused prescription medications.

The upcoming collection will be held on Oct. 25, and Long Valley’s drop-off location will be the police department, located at 1 East Springtown Road.

“Unused prescription drugs can be dangerous if they fall into the wrong hands. Drug Take Back Day provides a safe, simple, and anonymous way to dispose of medications responsibly,” a police statement read. “Bring in your expired, unused, or unwanted prescriptions and help protect our community. Every drop-off counts!”

The initiative takes place twice a year. This past April, a sum of 519 pounds of drugs was taken from three Morris County drop-off points. The collection was over 100 pounds more than the county’s entire 2024 yield, which was 410 pounds.

“Too often, unused prescription drugs find their way into the wrong hands. That's dangerous and often tragic,” a DEA statement read. “That's why it was great to see thousands of folks from across the country clean out their medicine cabinets and turn in - safely and anonymously - a record amount of prescription drugs.”
