Underage Drunk Driver Charged After Airborne Long Valley Crash

Police said a 20-year-old man from Bayonne was arrested for drunk driving following a crash on Kings Highway this past weekend.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — The driver of a car that went airborne on Kings Highway this past weekend has been arrested and charged with DWI, police said.

Authorities said that around 10 p.m. on Saturday, the Washington Township Police Department responded to a serious single-vehicle crash on Kings Highway, where they found a heavily damaged car stopped in the middle of the roadway.

The driver of the car, a 20-year-old from Bayonne, was found near the crash site, police said. He was the only occupant of the vehicle at the time of the incident.

Authorities later determined that the driver lost control while traveling north on Kings Highway. The vehicle struck several stationary objects off the northbound shoulder, causing it to become airborne and rotate before landing in the middle of the roadway.

At the scene, authorities determined that the driver was operating the vehicle under the influence and he was subsequently charged with DWI.

Following the initial investigation, the driver was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment by the Long Valley First Aid Squad.
