Drunken Driver In Long Valley Arrested After Crash, Police Say

The individual was speeding and swerving before the accident, according to police.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — A man has been arrested after crashing his car while drunk, according to the Washington Township Police Department.

Recently, a Washington Township police officer noticed a driver speeding through Long Valley Center while swerving. When the officer attempted to pull the vehicle over on West Mill Road, the driver sped off.

Officials said that in an effort to keep other drivers safe, the officer did not engage in a car chase.

The driver was later spotted driving eastbound on West Mill Road before veering off the roadway and crashing into a wooded area.

Officers were able to remove the driver from the vehicle before determining that he was drunk, police said.

He was charged with eluding and driving while intoxicated, and faces multiple other motor vehicle violations.

The driver was taken to a nearby hospital before being housed in the Morris County Correctional Facility to await court proceedings.

Officials have not released the name of the suspect.
