Long Valley Families Can Come To School-Hosted Community Forums

The district's superintendent has planned the forums in the Long Valley Middle School Performing Arts Center on Dec. 9 and 15.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — As a way to connect with the community and Washington Township Schools’ families, the district’s new superintendent says he’s hosting two upcoming community forums.

When Superintendent Dr. Peter Turnamian joined the district in late October, he announced he started a “listening tour” in the schools, which then would follow with in-person community forums.

The forums, he described in an Oct. 18 letter that he posted on the district’s website, are a place where "our leaders and I will share initial reflections about our school community, listen to community feedback and respond to questions or concerns.”

During his first Board of Education meeting this past Tuesday night, Turnamian announced the dates of the upcoming forums are planned at Long Valley Middle School’s Performing Arts Center on Thursday, Dec. 9 at 10 a.m. and the second, on Wednesday Dec. 15 at 7 p.m. All are welcome from the community, with mask-wearing mandated at the events.

Turnamian said he was impressed at what a warm welcome he’s received so far, since he started serving in the district, saying that everyone he meets has been dedicated to helping students, their “level of pride and love they feel for our community could not be more evident.”

He complimented the staff throughout the school district and said, “I believe our community is really blessed with a talented and dedicated leadership team.”

“The amount of pride you feel for our schools really makes Washington Township Schools a very special place to work,” Turmanian said of all of the district's staff members.
