Long Valley First Aid Squad, Fire Department, Responds To Car Wreck

Responders had to remove the vehicle door to extract the victim, officials said.

LONG VALLEY, NJ — The Long Valley First Aid Squad jumped into action this week after a car wreck trapped a passenger in a vehicle.

The incident occurred earlier this week after a car crash in the area. The First Aid Squad did not disclose the specific details of the crash.

The Long Valley First Aid Squad was called out to the scene by the Morris County Communications Center to assist first responders in removing a victim trapped in the crushed vehicle. Assisting was the Fairmount Fire Company No. 1, Long Valley.

Responders were able to stabilize the patient before using the jaws of life to remove the vehicle door and extract the victim.

“The Long Valley First Aid Squad EMS and Rescue Services responded to a motor vehicle collision in which the patient was confined to the vehicle,” said Rescue Captain Hagan Sniffen. “In order to safely remove the patient from the vehicle a door needed to be removed.”

Sniffen added that the extraction was routine, and that it’s a procedure that the first aid squad personnel “train constantly to perform.”

The Long Valley First Aid Squad is entirely made up of volunteers, and was first formed in 1957. Since then, the squad has been assisting the residents of the Long Valley area.
