Former Long Valley Business Owner Succumbs To Lymphoma At 71
John Battista, Jr. lived in town for 32 years.

LONG VALLEY, N.J. – Johnny B., as he was known, was one of a kind, and always looking to help others.
John Battista, Jr., who lived in Long Valley for 32 years, died April 9 at the age of 71 after a valiant battle with Lymphoma.
Battista graduated Ramapo Regional High School in Ramapo and Midwestern University in Wichita Falls, Texas with a bachelor’s degree in English.

Battista was a property claims adjuster in the insurance industry for more than 30 years. He and his wife, Teresa, also owned a sporting goods store in Long Valley named Sports ‘N Such for six years.
Battista was also a very active member of St. Luke’s Parish and served on several committees. He was involved in the Christmas tree sales, the kitchen/community room addition, and oversaw the renovations on the parish rectory.

Battista was a charter member and Past Grand Knight of the Long Valley Council #10419 and a Fourth Degree member of the Order of the Knights of Colombus.
He’s survived by his wife, Teresa, of 46 years, and their children Lori and Brad.
A memorial Mass and celebration of life will be held Friday, April 15 at St. Luke’s Parish on West Mill Road. Visitation will be held from 9 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. followed by a funeral mass at 11 a.m.
Memorial donations may be made to Beebe Healthcare Medical Foundation, designating Tunnell Cancer Center as the beneficiary.
