LONG VALLEY, NJ — A new "Green Team Committee" ordinance was introduced during the township meeting at the Washington Township Municipal Building on Monday.

The ordinance aims to establish a "Green Team Committee" to replace the temporary "Ad Hoc Green Team," which was temporarily implemented in 2010.

Single-stream recycling was one of the sustainability topics raised at the meeting on Monday.

"If we can save money by going to single-stream [recycling], it seems like a lot of towns are doing [that] because it's cost-effective for everyone," a council member said.

The permanent Green Team Committee vote will go up for final approval on April 21, and if approved the new team will consist of at least seven team members, who will work to promote environmental initiatives in the community.

This will include working with local businesses, employees, and service providers to share ideas for improving sustainability.

Each member will serve a one-year term starting January 1, and the team will meet a minimum of four times per year.
