Spots Left For West Morris Central H.S. ‘Turkey Trot’ Nov. 25

CHESTER, NJ — It’s a tradition for some before the Thanksgiving tradition, with the 15th annual West Morris Central High School Memorial 5K Turkey Trot coming up this Thanksgiving Day.

With starting times at 8, 8:30 and 9 a.m. on Nov. 25 and spots limited at 125 participants, the race at the high school on 259 Bartley Road, honors Kyleigh D’Alessio, Tanner Birch and Stephen Bertsler, with proceeds from the race going to scholarships in their names, as well as to benefit recreational projects in Washington Township and West Morris Central's Project Graduation.

Racing in the 5K or Fun Run is $25 per person, with race registration online only here by the Nov. 23 deadline: https://runsignup.com/Race/NJ/Chester/12thAnnualWestMorrisCentralMemorial5KTurkeyTrot

Awards will be given to the top three male and female runners in the 11 and under and 12 and over age groups.

There are other COVID-19 rules for race day, which include:

• Participants need to wear masks or face coverings before or after the race.
• Runners can check in on site, where each runner picks up their bags, tagged with their names.
• Runners need to bring their own water to drink, no water will be passed out.
• Starting “line” will be staggered with six feet spacing, families allowed to start together with bib number the starting order.
• Timing is per “chip time.”
• Runners should leave the finish area after their run.
• Results will be live-streamed.
• Runners need to keep a six foot distance in between themselves.
